Last week, I had the pleasure of relaxing over a luxury staycation at Langdon Hall Hotel and Spa Cambridge. Let me tell you, it was such a treat! Even though the weather was gloomy, we enjoyed the property and food immensely. I can only imagine how beautiful it is in the summer months. With five-diamond dining onsite, charming accommodations and a pristine property, it is classic luxury at its best. Old world charm meets modern comforts. Keep reading for my personal experience.
Luxury Staycation at Landgon Hall Hotel & Spa Cambridge – The Property
The property exudes the elegance of an old Ontario estate. Built in Canada by the son of an English man who inherited American wealth, the grand home was intended as a summertime contrast to life in New York, London and a château in the Loire valley (and what a home it must have been!). In 1989, the building was purchased by an architect who converted it into its present day country hotel. The owner developed a vast landscape of beautiful gardens, with a lot of vegetables and greens produced onsite for guests dining at the property.
An elegant waiting area outside the main dining room.
One of their private dining rooms for hosting smaller functions.
The light-filled Main Conservatory where you can relax over a drink or delight in afternoon tea.
Langdon Hall offers a number of quaint and cozy spaces for smaller receptions, events and weddings with rooms accommodating up to 120 guests. This is a transformed dining space set for an intimate dinner, perfect for a luncheon or intimate wedding reception.
Luxury Staycation at Landgon Hall Hotel & Spa Cambridge – Accommodations
Langdon Hall Country House Hotel & Spa features fifty-two guestrooms and suites, all spacious and charming, many furnished with fine antiques. All rooms feature feather beds with down duvets, many of which also have a sitting area with wood burning fireplaces. Several rooms also feature private terraces overlooking the gardens.
Overlooking the croquet lawn or woodlands is the Cloister Rooms where we stayed. This beautifully appointed room offered classic comforts and neutral tones.
Bath salts are included with your marble bathroom just in case you wanted to take a dip in the deep soaker (which I definitely did!).
My husband’s favourite part of the room – the all-season log burning fireplace.
Welcome snacks which whetted our appetite for dinner.
Luxury Staycation at Landgon Hall Hotel & Spa Cambridge – To do
Around the property, there are plenty of complimentary activities to partake in on your luxury staycation. In the summer months, enjoy the outdoor pool and game of croquet (a jazz trio can be arranged for your game, how fun!), participate in the daily complimentary Wine Tasting or weekly cooking demonstration. For those who love to be outside, explore the many walking and bike trails nearby. Then sit by the outdoor fireplace and watch the sunset before dinner. Nearby, guests can visit St. Jacobs, Stratford or shop at many local antique shops.
For guests who love to get pampered, take a visit to the spa for a massage and dip in the whirlpool. A wonderful experience all around.
While onsite, take a test drive in the new Lexus NX Luxury Crossover, as part of their partnership with Lexus. It’s a fun vehicle to drive!
Wilks’ Bar is a perfect afternoon spot for one of their specialty cocktails and a snack. I especially enjoyed the blueberry pancake sodas made in house, yum!
Billiards table for those who want to stay in for some entertainment.
Luxury Staycation at Langdon Hall Hotel & Spa Cambridge – The Food
Being the only Five Diamond dining destination in all of Ontario, we knew we were in for a treat. Five Diamond dining status means:
Ultimate luxury, sophistication and comfort with extraordinary physical attributes, meticulous personalized service, extensive amenities and impeccable standards of excellence.
Executive Chef Jason Bangerter oversees all the dining experiences at Langdon Hall, from the afternoon tea to breakfast to dinner. The cuisine is inspired by the seasons and what is fresh, with their gardens on the property growing exactly what inspires him (a chef’s dream!).
A quick photo with Chef Jason after our arrival. He is a super nice guy dedicated to his craft. He actually was the lead chef who started Malaparte a few years back, so we might have crossed paths a number of years ago. Small world!
We get ready for dinner just as the sun sets behind Langdon Hall.
Chef spoils us with not just one amuse bouche but several courses from the Chef’s tasting menu, alongside our three course meal. It was such a treat!
Juniper smoked trout with trout cracker, an interesting marriage of tastes and woodsy flavour.
Sweet potato veloute poured live at the table from Chef, paired with pear, lime and coriander.
Smiles all around here. The food was SO good.
My husband’s Lamb dish, with wheat berry porridge, wood roasted carrots and medjool date.
My delicious pickerel dish complete with golden nugget squash, cauliflower, brussels and winter spice.
For breakfast, their country buffet style breakfast may entice you, but, trust me on this one, you will want to order from their a la carte menu. It was some of the best breakfast I’ve ever had (truffle for breakfast, really can’t be beat). This is my breakfast – soft poached duck egg, with savoury butter croissant and foraged mushrooms with truffle hollandaise. I’m still dreaming about it!
All in all, my Luxury Staycation at Landgon Hall Hotel & Spa Cambridge was beyond expectation. The charming estate feel combined with top notch service and five diamond dining is hard to beat. It is the perfect spot for a quick getaway not too far from the city.
