We are thrilled to have joined Dina and Steph on Breakfast Television for a segment on how to plan a wedding in 2 weeks. With the pandemic still going strong in Ontario, a lot of couples are left with the same dilemma of having their wedding plans in limbo. But once things open up, you often have a very small window of time to plan your wedding so that it can happen.
I’ve put together a few of my top tips for how to plan a micro wedding in a short time frame, in even 2 weeks. Keep reading for inspiration for your celebration.
Send Wedding Kits to Your Guests
With micro weddings, it can be really tough to not be able to invite everyone you want to invite. Most will have to join in via an online live stream.
Having had a year of virtual events and Zoom hangouts, it can certainly be drab.
Give your guests something to be excited about by sending them a special “wedding guest kit” prior to the wedding, so they feel included and anticipate the event.
Some ideas for your wedding guest kit include:
- Your favourite sweets or pastries
- A cocktail kit of Mr. and Mrs. signature drinks
- Replica of your wedding cake in a cookie form or as a mini cake
- Snacks from your first trip together
- Food kit from your first date together
Enjoy A Romantic Meal for Two
Most micro weddings are smaller days and won’t include a long reception. Many micro weddings will actually be a daytime event since it is outdoors, to take advantage of the warmer weather in the daytime.
If you have a shorter wedding day, skip takeout and order a special meal for just the two of you to enjoy.
If you are celebrating with family after your ceremony, you can also consider ordering individual meal kits for each person so that it is covid-friendly and is personalized.
Dress For The Occasion
A lot of brides are not sure what to wear for their micro wedding, because they want to save their wedding dress for the bigger party for the rescheduled date. If this is you, consider getting a cocktail dress from a local designer in Toronto. We have many great designers in the city, who will have ready-to-wear dresses that will cost a fraction of the cost of a wedding dress, but still be equally stunning.
You will want to look your best, but don’t need the drama of a second wedding dress. If it is not a bridal gown, chances are you can wear it again down the road on a honeymoon or at an event.
Easy DIY Decor
A lot of couples are not wanting to spend a lot on decor, because they still have big decor contracts to fulfill for their rescheduled event. This is totally fair! Instead, decorate with some collected vases and loose stems of floral. Order from a local florist to get the best in-season flowers, versus a grocery store or corner store. You will be able to get flowers in your colours as well, and if they are loose, they won’t cost as much as arrangements where you pay for the florist’s time.
Rent Place Settings
If you’ve ever hosted a gathering at home for more than 6-8 people, you know it is a lot of work! Not to mention if you want to serve a more formal meal. If you are interested in hosting at home, consider renting your tabletop rentals for easy clean up.
