5 (more) Wedding Day Rain Tips

May 6, 2017 | Blog, Planning

These past few weeks in Toronto, we have had an influx of rainy days, eh? With all this rain and wedding season starting up, it only made sense to revisit wedding day rain tips.

These tips build on my first post on 5 tips for wedding day rain. I was also asked to speak about some tips on Global News recently and one of our couples getting married this weekend got to be on camera too. If you find yourself with rain in the forecast, here are some practical tips for you from someone who has seen it all.

But first, here is the Global News video:

1. Bring outdoor shoes

If part of your wedding may be outdoors, whether that is photos or ceremony, consider getting a pair of shoes for the outdoors.

Get a pair of wedges (for the height) that you can wear for trudging the outdoors. If you’re not afraid of some colour maybe get a pair of cute rain boots. Then, change into your nice, dry shoes for indoors. Trust me, you don’t want to ruin your new pair or Jimmys or Louboutins with mud and rain!

2. Book return service with your glam squad

If you know it will rain, the humidity and moisture will frizz up your hair and may dampen your makeup. Ideally, I would recommend a return service with your hair and makeup stylist so you can get touched up.

If you are planning to wear your hair down, don’t even think about it. You will need the hair touch up! Or consider getting an updo instead!

Makeup is not as important as a hair touch up, in my opinion, but having both is safest. If your photos are before the ceremony, you don’t want to look like you’ve weathered a storm when you see your guests for the first time.

At the very least, ensure you or your wedding planner has a good curling iron on hand.

3. Run through Plan B

If you are having your ceremony outdoors, at your rehearsal make sure you run through Plan A (ideal situation where the weather cooperates) and Plan B (when the weather is not great). You and your wedding party will want to know the run through for both.

When it comes to photos, ensure you have spoken to your photographer and planner to see what indoor or covered options there may be for photos.

4. Dress for cooler temps

Along with the rain, we sometimes will get a drop in temperature. This is especially true in the spring and fall seasons. To keep warm when outdoors, consider getting a nice shawl or fur that is neutral, light colored or sequinned (so it doesn’t look like an after-thought).

5. Get pretty umbrellas

I can’t stress this enough. Black or coloured umbrellas cast shadows on faces. Ensure you have a white or clear umbrella on hand so they don’t become the focus of every photo. They make such a difference! Ours are from White Umbrella Co.

But let’s face it. You really can’t control the weather, but you can control how prepared you are. Don’t be naive and think the weather will go in your favour. It might not and you don’t want to be left wet, cold and dirty!

If you’re getting married this weekend in the rain, all the best! It will be an amazing wedding, whether rain or shine. Stay dry and stay happy!
