I had a great time, as always, on the set of Breakfast Television. Fitting to the occasion, I talked about Chinese New Year event and decor ideas, and I brought my feisty little dog Casey as well. See the segment below and some of my tips for decorating for the celebration. Thank you again to the friendly folks at Mango Studios for coming bright and early to capture it all!
1. Decorate with the lucky colours of gold and red
Red and gold are lucky colours in the Chinese culture, so you will want to decorate and wear it to bring yourself luck. All red floral arrangements can sometimes be too harsh, so I included some hits of fuschia in these ones to give it a pop of texture. Floral arrangements and candles from Cool, Green & Shady.
2. Bring in tabletop rentals for easy clean up and unique accents
Bring in gold accents with tabletop rentals from Plate Occasions. The best part is you don’t have to wash the dishes!
3. Custom design stationary for the occasion
Custom designed menu featuring Chinese peonies, flowers that represent the spring and the new year. All stationary designed by Brooklin Paper Co.
Create custom name cards for your guests and get crafty!
Custom designed gold peony chopstick wrapper with matching red pocket envelope.
4. Attend Chinese New Year events around the city
Attend special events around the city if eating in is not your thing, like this special high tea at Shangri-La Hotel Toronto, with their special Chinese New Year flavours.
5. Bring in custom flavours
We collaborated with Love Gelato to create special Chinese New Year flavours – Asian Pear, Mango and Kumquat.
6. Create a fun backdrop for photos
Ettridges created this beautiful gold fan backdrop that is perfect for photobooths, sweets displays and just a wow feature to talk about.
7. Eat lots and celebrate well!
